Samara Arrival

Red Maple Spring Sighting

Watercolor on paper, 14″x10″, 2020.

In botany, the one or two-winged seeds of tree species such as elm, ash and maple are called samaras (also known as keys). The two-winged maple fruits spin to the ground like helicopter rotors, a fascinating sight to see as they seek out new ground, fun to gather up again and toss into the wind for another round.
