Affection by Kaitlyn Walsh

Craving affection
I don’t even see it walking the streets
Relatives hugging
Soul mates in their little bubble
Lovers holding hands
I have to go to the woods or drive two hours to feel that electricity
Coursing through bodies
That kind of lightning changes the air and hyphae beneath us
Vibes together more powerful than apart
I want you like shadow
Deep inside me
Resting in the tender dark
Not hiding
Pleasure-seeking
Brave love builds absolute wonder
Sows seeds
In womb space
Out in public
Underground
Medicines kissing me too
All over
Head to sole
And beyond
Tread quiet in our forest
Listen
Ghost pipe brings in the other side
Ones whose names we don’t know
They find us
Our hearts open
Their messages reach us!
Revolution our life blood
Our breath
Radical our roots
Trophorestorative for all our endings
If we would only reach out and touch
Anthropocene
That word hits surface level
It buries Anishinaabeg
Indigenous
Just being
We all who know we are soil and stars
Our relationships
Our connection
Our humanity
Are exactly what we need
