I am grateful for the original editors and contributors for putting together an accessible and open anthology.  In adapting this text, I have deleted some writers and readings, which are no longer available in the public domain or open on the web. I have also added work, mostly from the contemporary period. I use this text primarily in a college World Literature class that focuses mostly on post-World War II writings.

I hope the changes and additions will be useful to others as well.
