Before your first sit down with faculty, it is best to perform some basic research. In this research, you should explore the topic of the course and what materials currently exist.

Some questions to help you conduct this initial research might include:

Do other teachers at the school or in the state use OER materials for this course (or a similar course)?

Opendora is the repository for MinnState OER. It may be helpful to begin a search here.

Is there an existing OER textbook, canvas commons course or other structure that could prove to be a foundation for the course?

At Central Lakes College, the library website on Open Education Resources has a few excellent sites to begin searching.

Are there any OER communities working towards the creation of similar materials?

Once in a while, the CCCOER listserv members share some excellent sources that may not have been published in a repository.

What is the current (non-OER) textbook in use? What does it bring to the table?

What resources are available on campus to support this class? How could they support the project (Honors, Clubs, etc)

Are there prerequisites for this course? What is the knowledge base of students on this topic coming into the course?
