Midas

Judy Daniel

Once upon a time, oh, an impossible

number of years ago, a greedy old king

with a magic touch,

turned everything he loved to gold.

Piles and piles of it, people of it, all

Immobile

Gold.

It was with a great glow of satisfaction he

surveyed its solidity, solidarity, passivity.

Transfixed by petrified projections

from his wild brain, once upon a time,

he stood, alone, musing the perfect quiet of it
