Books are never written in a vacuum. This book was generated with the help of colleagues and students. Special thanks to Elizabeth Kellet and Keith Richter, English instructors at Inver Hills Community College, who read portions of the book for clarity and tried out portions of chapters with their classes. Elizabeth– thanks for your willingness to collaborate and adapt some of these materials for tutoring training and academic coaching.
Thanks also to student tutors Gunnar Johnson, Sam Guindon, and Abs Owings for making suggestions and reviewing portions of the book. Special thanks to Gunnar Johnson who spent tutoring time trying out lesson plans and helping me develop charts, graphic organizers, and providing technical expertise.
My Inver Hills community has been supportive in important ways– thank you to Dean of Liberal Arts Barb Curchack who keeps me grounded in data at the same time that she encourages me to dwell in possibility. Thanks also to colleagues Katie Nelson (anthropology), and Erica Wood (Geology), Jon Jensen (Psychology), Heather Brient Johnson (Biology) and Sara Wiggins (Director of Nursing) for doing one, some or all of the following: inviting me in to their classrooms to talk to students about studying, helping me set up study groups for their students, providing me with opportunities to talk to faculty about study skills, or incorporating study skills into their teaching.
Also– thank to Karen Pikula, Minnesota State Faculty OER Coordinator, and to the entire fall 2023 cohort for providing encouragement and suggestions, and to Lori-Beth Larsen, English Instructor, Central Lakes College, who always believed in me.
