The Bully!

Vienna Augedahl

Once upon a time, it was a beautiful Friday afternoon. School was done for the week, the sun was shining, everyone was in a fabulous mood! Everyone, that is, except me, Lucy. I had the worst day, and it was all because of Andy.

Andy is a big bully in our school. It all started when I was walking home from school, playing my violin. Of course, I wasn’t very good at it, yet. I had just started lessons, and violin is really hard.

Andy stopped me and said, “Why are you even playing the violin? You’re so bad at it!” Then he pushed me and I fell down.

I was really embarrassed, and that’s why I’m going to start practicing my violin skills. I have been practicing violin for a couple of months, but I still need more practice. My mom says that I am really good at it, but that’s what mothers are supposed to say. I’ve always wanted to be a professional violinist. All my life, even before my first lesson, that’s been my dream. But where to start?

I’m kind of thinking about joining the school orchestra. Rumor has it that they need violin players! If they don’t get more violin players, they won’t even have a section for the orchestra. I think one of my friends plays the cello. Maybe she plays in the orchestra. I’ll ask her tomorrow.

So I talked to my mom about playing in the school orchestra. She thought it was a great idea, but that’s what mothers are supposed to think. I think it’s a great idea, too.

I asked my friend, Amanda how she liked being in the orchestra. She said she’s been in the orchestra for a while now and she wouldn’t spend her time on it if it wasn’t awesome! She told me that practices are Wednesdays at 2:30 pm. That’s today after school. Hmmm, I could go check this out.

I went to orchestra practice today, and I did really well, but the bad thing is they have the first concert of the year in two weeks. I’m going to have to put in lots of work to be ready for the concert.

The orchestra decided on a song for the concert. It’s going to be “Tiny Dancer” by Elton John! Love it! It’s Tuesday today, and I actually feel pretty confident already on my part. I love the song, too. That always helps!

Now the concert is in six days, and I’m so excited about it. Who knows? I might start doing the orchestra more often, like in the summer or something.

Okay so next thing you know, the concert is in two days! I am so excited to play! It’s crunch time now so I should probably practice a couple more times before the concert.

It’s concert night! The beautiful, sweet melody of “Tiny Dancer” rolled right off my bow! All my hard work paid off! I spent HOURS preparing for this. Practice really DOES make perfect!

There is one section of the piece where the violins get the beautiful melody! Just as the section ended, who do I see sulking in the front row?! That bully, Andy!

Apparently, his mother made him attend the concert with her. I think he was mad I did such a good job! Now he can’t pick on me, anymore!

Then our director had a surprise for us! He was so proud of our performance that he signed us up to attend a weeklong workshop at the Denver Performing Arts Complex in Colorado! Woo hoo! I can’t wait! I have butterflies just thinking about it! I feel nervous and excited at the same time. I’m going to practice so much that my music sounds like raindrops in spring air!

I guess I showed that bully, Andy. I am NOT “so bad” at the violin! His negative comments are what drove me to success! Ha!
