The Art Museum Burglars
Gavin Denboer and Jordan Wurm
Once upon a time, there was a boy named Jamall Biggs. He didn’t like art, and he was bad at it. He was small and skinny. Kids made fun of him. He is eleven. He and his friend Jeremy felt left out a lot. Neither of them had much money, either. They were picked on for that. Jeremy is also short, but rather kind of chunky. He is also eleven. They both do well in school… they were picked on for that!
Both boys lack athleticism, so being troublemakers is their hobby. People are always making fun of them and their bad art. One day they had a field trip to the art museum. On Friday they took one of the school buses. The museum was twenty minutes away from their school.
Once they got there, they did a head check, but Jamall and Jeremy snuck into the museum through a different entrance. That’s when they saw a man with a bag. They thought he looked suspicious, but they just went back to their class before they got into trouble for wandering off. Once they got into the museum with the class, they looked at all the artwork and were amazed by it. They did a bathroom break, and saw the same suspicious man. They went to follow him in order to figure him out. They saw he had a gun! They ran back to the class to tell them they were all in very real danger! The class didn’t believe them. The teacher yelled at them not to go around accusing innocent people, but then they heard gunshots.
Everyone ran out of the museum, including the boys. The gunman ended up getting arrested. Everyone made it home safely. The next week the art museum opened again, but now there were safety precautions. They rescheduled the trop to go to the museum on Monday. Jamall and Jeremy decided to rob the place. Why? Because they got yelled at and accused of falsely accusing someone else when they were just trying to warn the calss. No one even apologized! They were mad!
So they go involved in some crime of their own. So they robbed the place, got caught, and were sent to juvie hall. So they were in their beds in juvie hall, and had an idea to break out. They were going to target the art museum again! They started their escape plan. They took some spoons from when they had their meals and started to dig under their cells to chisel out a tunnel. A couple of months later they were almost there. About a week after that, they were done with the tunnel. They will escape tomorrow! Finally the day came! They stuffed their beds with pillows to fool the guards into thinking their bodies were there. They entered the tunnel and escaped.
They fled town and traveled until they found a new town. They came to a store to buy some food to eat. They each ad twenty bucks in their pockets. They both bought a hotdog for five bucks and water for one dollar. They went up to the cashier and they paid for it. They asked the worker what town they were in. He said they were in Bellsville, Rhode Island. They asked him if they had a local bus company and he said yes. They asked where the nearest bus stop was. He said about two miles away. They needed to get back to Mason, Delaware, where they lived. They walked the two miles to get to the bus stop. The next arrival for the bus was in the morning, so they went to sleep.
The next morning the bus came at nine. They hopped on. The bus ticket was ten dollars. That means they each had four dollars left. They asked the driver where he was going and he said Delaware. They both jumped up in excitement. The boys were finally going to their home state. They knew where they could stay. Jamal had an uncle Jim who was always cool with him, even if he got in trouble. Plus, he is single AND he would like a painting in his house. They drew up a plan on a wrinkled piece of paper. They were going to rob the Delaware state art museum… and get Jamal’s uncle his painting for helping them! They asked the bus driver to drop them off by the coast of Delaware. They would find Jamal’s uncle from there. It was a long drive. They had to drive through Pennsylvania to get to Delaware. They slept until the next stop, where they woke up and the driver told them they had reached the nearest town to Jamal’s uncle’s house.
So they got off and thanked the driver for giving them a ride. The bus left. They had about five blocks to walk through town, then a little bit out into the suburbs when they reached his house. They rang the doorbell and to their surprise, someone else answered the door. Jamall’s uncle got a girlfriend whose name was Jessica. Jessica asked who they were.
Jamall said he came to see his uncle Jim, so Jessica let them in. When they saw Jamall’s uncle, they asked how old his girlfriend was. He said nineteen. He had never told Jessica that he is 31. Little age gap, oh well. Anyway, Jamall and Jeremy told Jim and Jessica the plan. Both Jim and Jessica were in on helping them, so Jim drove all four of them to the museum that was about an hour away from Jim’s house.
“This is where the heist begins,” said Jamall.
About forty five minutes later, they arrived at the museum. Jim had a crowbar in his minivan. Jeremy asked Jim why he had THAT in the car! Jim replied for safety! So they went to the back of the museum where there was a door. Jim smashed the crowbar through the door. They were in the back of the building where all the new shipped stuff was. They saw so much good stuff. They saw some janitor suits that they put on, and a couple mop buckets. They went around the museum, putting artistic jewelry and other stuff into the bucket, and making sure nobody saw them stealing stuff. They went back to where the door was. They kept refilling the buckets with jewelry, and then they all put the stuff out the door and escaped. Then Jamall, Jim, Jeremy, and Jessica put all the stolen stuff into the minivan and drove away.
When they got back to the house, they looked over all the items they stole. All of the diamonds that the museum had! It was like six or seven that they had stolen. Jamall told Jeremy he wanted to speak to him alone. Jamall told Jeremy how he felt, Jeremy said he felt the same way. It was an awkward moment of silence when they told Jim and Jessica. Jim and Jessica did not feel the same way! After all they had been through, they had no intentions of doing the right thing, now!
When night came, they decided to do it. They tiptoed down the stairs quietly to where all the keys were and where all the jewelry was hidden. They took the car keys and the jewelry. But when they heard footsteps, they ran out of the house and unlocked the minivan. They hopped in and locked it. Jim came out of the house furiously. Jamall immediately put the car in drive!
They drove to Jamall’s house. They rang the doorbell. Jamall’s mom answered. Jamall apologized to him mom. She was mad, but she let them in. He said he would never steal or do something bad ever again. They told Jamall’s mom their plan to return all the stuff they stole. So Jamall’s mom drove them to the museum they stole from, and they returned the art, and apologized to the staff for stealing all the art and diamonds. Meanwhile, the next day they turned themselves in for breaking and entering, and they were sentenced to eight years in juvie, and ten years in prison for stealing all the stuff.
Eighteen years later… they are now twenty-nine and not well educated to be let out into the world! They got let out, Jamall had to go live with his mom since he had no money and no house. He did get a job as a mascot at Disney World, but it didn’t pay super great. Jeremy was having a tough time, too. He dealt with a lot of guild and depression; most places didn’t want to trust him or hire him.
This is what happens when you rob art museums, so don’t do it!!
