Painting is Me

Matthew Ranzenberger

Hello my name is Jerry Lee. I’m 23 years old. I live in Los Angeles in an average house, with my dog Tornado. He’s a husky. I have always wanted a husky ever since I was a kid. However, let’s take a look at the past.

I was only three years old when I started painting my first artwork. It was of a horse and a barn because I loved horses when I was young. I was amazing and I wanted to be like Leonardo da Vinci. I always thought he was the best because his art is so realistic. I also really liked Bob Ross. When I was five years old, I sold my first piece of art. I sold it for $8.

Then I started playing basketball. It was my favorite. I always wanted to be like Kobe Bryant. But when I was 10 years old, I started a stand to sell my art. I made $250, and it took me a while because I was practicing basketball every other day. So I couldn’t paint every day… and it took a month to paint everything.

When I was 11 years old, I entered middle school. I was very, very nervous, but I got through it. When I was 13 years old, I even made art for an art gallery in Los Angeles. I thought it was really cool. It was a painting of “The Scream,” and I had the best art at the art gallery. I had six paintings in the gallery total, but “The Scream” was by far my favorite. It took me a month and a half to paint it. “The Scream” painting sold for $250. It was a little bit off of the original, but it wasn’t the original, so it didn’t sell for much.

When I was 14 years old, I entered high school. I was a little nervous, but not really. I got on the junior varsity basketball team, and I was really excited. I played point guard. My highest points in a game was 27.

Then I started to paint abstract art. It was very cool because you can see different things depending on how you look at it. When I was 15 years old, I entered a competition, but I didn’t do that well. I got fourth place and I got a ribbon. I didn’t place that well because my paintings were all abstract art, and I just started one month ago on abstract art.

Then I was very excited because when I turned 16, I was going to get a car. It was a little Toyota. My mom got it for me for my sixteenth birthday. I was a little nervous because I was going to a huge art gallery that I put my art in. People loved my art pieces, but it makes me nervous when they’re ALL on display!

One of my art pieces sold for $1500! I don’t know who in their right mind would buy a painting for $1500! Hey, at least I got a lot of money.

When I was 18 years old, I graduated from high school and I did not go to college because I had a good paying job already. It was a very hard decision though, because I had to give up basketball if I didn’t go to college.

When I was 20 years old, I had already been painting for two years after high

school graduation. I was getting ready to enter another art gallery to put my paintings up. In total I made 16 paintings! And I auctioned them off one by one. You would not believe how much I got for my paintings! My earnings totaled over $9,000!

And that my friends, is why sometimes I think the arts are better than sports! I don’t make that kind of money playing basketball! Currently I’m living in my friendly neighborhood in Los Angeles, with my dog Tornado. Life is grand!
