I Love Clay

Hailey Cords

Ellie is a ten year old girl who loves working with clay. Her dream is to build dog houses out of clay for dog shelters, her dog and all the stray animals. The only problem is her parents won’t let her! They say that she is too young, and they don’t trust her to do clay.

One day, Ellie’s parents called her down to eat supper with them. “Hey Ellie, I have to tell you something,” said her mom.

“Oh, okay,” said Ellie.

Her mom told her that her dad’s new job is somewhere else and they are going to have to move to a new house and a new school.

“Oh, I did not know that,” said Ellie. Ellie was super shocked.

“It will be okay,” Ellie’s dad said when he could see the scaredness on her face.

Ellie’s mom said, “It’s okay because Jack is going to be there with you!”

Jack is Ellie’s best friend. They found each other in kindergarten and have been friends ever since.

They were packing boxes and suitcases to go on the loading car. When they got to the new house Ellie was nervous for the first day of school in her new school. Ellie was getting really unforgettable feelings from the new house. She thinks it smelled like garbage.

When the loading truck arrived Ellie and her mom started loading everything into her new house. Her mom started helping her by putting the bed and shelves and all of her stuff in the room. When she was done putting the stuff where it belonged, she started feeling like home.

It was 8:30 p.m. and she had to go to bed for the first day of school tomorrow. When she was sleeping, she didn’t even wake up in the night because she was super snuggled into her bed.

The next day Ellie woke up early and started packing her bag. She was super excited for her first day! When her mom woke up, she was surprised that Ellie was awake and ready for school already.

When Ellie got to school she saw all of the kids and got nervous again. She was walking into the school and Jack ran up to her and hugged her. When Jack hugged her, Ellie’s nerves went away.

Jack said, “Hi Ellie, guess what? There is a clay class. You should ask your parents if you can sign up.”

Ellie said, “That’s a great idea! I can ask my parents after school.” When Ellie went to the front office to see what class she was in, she realized that she and Jack and were in the same class. Ellie told Jack and Jack got really excited. When Jack and Ellie were walking up to their new classroom one of Jack’s friends told them about a nice teacher there and they got the nice teacher.

After school, Ellie’s mom went and picked her up and Ellie jumped in the car and said, “Hey mom, there is a clay class. Can I sign up for it?”

Ellie’s mom got really nervous and she said, “We can go talk to your dad maybe.”

When Ellie and her mom got to her house Ellie, her mom and dad were talking and Ellie’s mom said yes to the class. “But you have to have respect and responsibility,” said Ellie’s mom.

“Thank you!” said Ellie to her mom. She got really excited and went to her room and called Jack.

Jack got really excited and said, “Tomorrow we can meet up and we can go to our clay class together. It starts tomorrow.”

When they got to school, Ellie and Jack met up and they ran into the school. When Jack and Ellie went up to the front office and asked when clay class starts, they said 5:30 p.m. The office worker also told her that she likes her green dress.

It just turned 5:29. Ellie and Jack got super excited and went to their clay class. The instructor told them some instructions about doing clay. They got to take their clay and got to do whatever they wanted for the day. Tomorrow they were going to learn how to make a basket.

When school was over Ellie’s mom asked Ellie, “How was school?”

Ellie said “Fantastic!”

A few years have passed, and Ellie and Jack are now making dog houses for their dogs, stray dogs and for dog shelters. Ellie was happy that she was able to take the clay class years ago so that she could teach other kids to do clay and about kindness for animals.
