You Can’t Do It!
by Angelo Igiraneza Ganza
Don’t you all know about the nursery rhyme “Johnny Johnny Yes Papa”? Of course many of you do. Aren’t kids’ songs supposed to teach them to tell the truth? Johnny Johnny Yes Papa song does weird things children can copy. It shows Johnny eating sugar and saying no when asked. Does he even face consequences after he eats sugar and tells a lie? No. Why does the song writer or the singer teach us to lie? That’s too bad! You can’t do it.
My friend, Daxtin, always lied saying he was in danger. One day, he got in danger for real. He squeezed his leg under a heavy couch and couldn’t get it out.
He screamed, “Help! Help! I am in danger!”
His parents did not run to help him. They did not take him seriously. They thought he was joking or lying as he always did. By the time they rushed to him, Daxtin was already hurt. He learned his lesson. He promised to lie no more.
When you lie, you give false information. That’s bad for communication. You can’t do it!
