The Talking Paintbrush

By Cheyanna Hansen

One spring day Emily bought a new paintbrush. She loved painting flowers so she went to her art studio to paint a new picture of flowers. She has been an artist for two years.

When she put the paintbrush on the canvas it started to talk to her. Emily was so surprised that she dropped her paintbrush on the floor. Pink paint splattered on the floor. She was confused because paintbrushes don’t talk. Emily thought she must be dreaming.

She picked up the paintbrush and looked at it. It moved toward the canvas and all of a sudden the paintbrush took over when she tried to paint. It moved all by itself and Emily just tried to stop it. It was so funny, but also very weird.

The magical talking paintbrush started saying words and Emily couldn’t believe that the paintbrush was moving by itself and talking to her. It told her to dip the brush into different colors and so Emily did it. When she put the magical paintbrush into the colors it told her to, then it magically painted flowers onto the canvas.

The first painting was a purple bellflower. When the magical paintbrush moved Emily’s hand, it painted a beautiful flower. Then, it whispered a message, “Do all things with kindness.”

Emily was still very confused by this magical paintbrush, but she also thought this was a pretty flower that she just painted and a good message about kindness. She liked that.

The next painting was a red rose. When the magical paintbrush moved Emily’s hand, it painted another beautiful flower. Then, it whispered a message that said, “Flowers are like friends. They bring color to your world.” Emily thought about her friend Olivia. She brings a lot of happiness and a lot of color to their friendship and that made Emily happy.

The next painting was a yellow sunflower. When the magical paintbrush moved Emily’s hand, it painted another beautiful flower. Then, it whispered, “Love is like wildflowers. It is often found in the most unlikely places.” Emily loved painting flowers. She loved this hobby. She felt so much love when she had a paintbrush in her hand.

Emily thought about her beautiful paintings and decided that sharing her paintings would make her happy. She gave them away to other people. She decided to give the kindness painting to her teacher. She gave the love painting to her mom and the friendship painting to her dad. Emily put her magical paintbrush in a drawer to keep it safe. She would paint more flower paintings another day.
