The Pony Express
By Cheyanna Hansen
The Pony Express was a communication system that allowed people from one town to send mail to people in another town. They used mail carriers who rode on horseback to deliver the mail.
People communicated by writing letters to other people and then people rode horses to deliver the letters. It took a long time. They advertised that it only took about 10 days to arrive. The people riding the ponies would ride across the whole United States.
The Pony Express was in operation for only 18 months between April 1860 and October 1861. People think about the Wild West when they think about the Pony Express. This was the time when people rode horses and the Pony Express used horses to mail letters to other places. It could take three weeks for mail to get from one side of the United States of America to the other side.
