The Kingdom of Truth
By Laurabeth Waldee
In the mid-thirteenth century there was a kingdom called the Kingdom of Truth. There was a reigning Queen named Rosetta and six main princesses named Zinnia, Iridessa, Flora, Bluebell, Azalea and Delphine who were all fairies and watched over the land. They lived on an island called Celestial Valley where animals and other creatures also lived. One day Saria, the dark fairy, went to the kingdom to talk with Queen Rosetta about becoming the seventh princess.
“Queen Rosetta what a beautiful day it is! I am Saria. I have come to request upon your approval that I become one of the princesses in your kingdom,” Saria said to Queen Rosetta.
“It sure is a good day to have the graces back. It is a wonderful day and as for your question, Saria, I know who you are, and I don’t think you meet the qualities of what we have and what we need here for you to be a part of our kingdom. Plus seven is an odd number. So the answer is going to be undoubtedly a no. Please go about your way. You darken my halls.” said Queen Rosetta, with a dismissive wave of her hand.
Saria got angry. She cursed at the queen and flew out of the castle. Saria waited a few days to think of a plan to ruin the queen. She went out into the village, looked around for the nearest villager, and she found a man. She started whispering in the man’s ear, telling him lies about the queen.
“I heard Queen Rosetta has been seen cavorting with the devil in the clearing at midnight, and the princesses accompany her, but don’t say anything. I don’t want to get her in trouble,” Saria whispered to the man.
The man whispered back, “I promise my lady. I won’t.”
When Saria left the man, he went and spread the rumor to the other villagers. A satisfied smile broke across her face as she watched. Saria immediately started conjuring up the spell for the queen at her cottage in the gray forest. As she searched for the most potent ingredients, she went over the incantation in her head.
A black light shot from her roof into the sky. Saria left her cottage and walked the halls of the castle. She grinned as Queen Rosetta lay at her feet. The spell worked, and the queen was passed out on the castle floor, but the drama was not over. All six of the princesses saw what happened from the balcony of the second floor and they came up with a plan to get rid of Saria.
Zinnia, Iridessa, Flora, Bluebell, Azalea and Delphine set their plan in motion. They decided to create their own potion that would trap evil Saria.
Azalea said, “Let’s gather the ingredients for the magical activation!”
The five princesses gathered the ingredients. Zinnia found stardust crystals. Iridessa found orchard root. Flora found moon lotus petals. Bluebell found mermaid tears, and Delphine found Frostberry. Azalea mixed the magical ingredients into a glass bottle. When it was finally prepared, they baked the potion into a fruit tartlet and placed it in a beautiful basket and brought to Saria’s cottage.
The sneaky princesses hid behind the trees in the Grey Forest. Saria opened her door and saw the basket on her porch. She swiftly reached down and picked up the tasty-looking fruit tartlet. With one bite, the dark fairy was trapped in her own evil tricks. She instantly transformed into sharp, prickly thistle and to this day, the dark fairy, Saria, creeps across the abandoned cottage in the Grey Forest. The six flower princesses and their Queen Rosetta lived happily ever in the Kingdom of Truth, having learned that the only way to live happily is by always being truthful.
