The Football Games

By Drew Klug

One day there were four people named Drew, Jordan, Mason and Ryan. They played football almost every day. They played so much they barely ever stopped! They made a couple of football fields.

It takes them a long time to make each field just right. They practice so they can do better every day. They would sometimes play at night, and sometimes they would play in the afternoon, and even in the morning. They almost always play on the weekends, but sometimes they play on other days. They do 2 on 2s. They sometimes play 1 on 1. They sometimes play tackle, and sometimes they play two touch. When they play their games, the teams are mostly Drew and Ryan versus Jordan and Mason. For practices they do Oklahoma drills. Ryan and Mason’s brother, Noah, would sometimes play football with them. They would usually play with knee pads.

Mason sometimes hits them so hard that they are on the ground for about 45 seconds. The team that usually wins is Mason and Jordan. The only time Drew and Ryan win are when Mason is having an off day. The best kicker is Drew, and then the second best kicker is Jordan. Then Mason is the third best kicker, and then finally Ryan is the worst.

One day they were playing a game, and while in the huddle, the play was communicated. One person said the play, and the person that was listening heard the wrong play. So, they went out on the field with a different play. The other team won and Drew, who was on the team that lost, said, “Dang it, we lost! Why did we lose? Ok, I think we can win next time if we really try.” Ryan agreed.

A couple hours later, it’s time for bed. They will wake tomorrow and they will play football. Hours later they wake up and they play football. Let’s track that game.

They have started the game and Mason and Jordan are kicking off. Drew and Ryan are receiving. It is first down and Drew passes it to Ryan. Ryan drops it. Now it is second down, and Drew says “hut” and Jordan has to wait 5 seconds, and then he can sack. Now Drew steps back and he throws it. Ryan catches it and Ryan runs for a while. Then Mason tackles Ryan. Now it is third down, and Drew says “hut.” He throws it to Ryan, and it is a touchdown!

“Let’s go!” Ryan shouts.

“Seven nothing, we are WINNING!” yells Drew.

Ok. Now Drew and Ryan are kicking off, and Drew has to kick off because Ryan is not the best kicker. Drew has kicked it off and it is a touchback. So, Jordan is going to be a quarterback. He says “hut” and he hands it off to Mason. Mason runs for about 10 yards before Ryan can tackle him. Now it is second down. Jordan says “hut” and then he steps back to throw. Mason catches and runs. He’s off and then Ryan finally tackles him. Third down! Jordan says “hut!” He steps back and he throws it for a touchdown.

“YEAH!!” they both cheer.

Now it is 7 to 7. Instead of Jordan kicking off, Mason is going to kick off. He kicks it. Ryan is returning and Drew is blocking. Ryan runs it to about the 20 yard line. Jordan was the cornerback and Mason was sacked. Drew throws a Hail Mary pass. Ryan catches it. He runs it for a touchdown.

“We win!” the other team cheered.

“Dang it, we lost,” the other boys grumbled. “If only we would have communicated better.”
