Communicating Without Words

By Henry Oakes

Once there was a guy named Robert Johnsen. He could not speak. He also was deaf. Robert could not speak, so people could not understand him. So he created an invention that would let other people communicate with him better. He could communicate by looking at people’s shoes. By looking at people’s shoes, he could tell who he was looking at and the invention gave people the ability to understand Robert.

The invention was called the Understand Machine. The Understand Machine was made out of copper and gold and it took three and a half years to make. The Understand Machine was located at Robert’s house, 714 East Marshall Street.

“Starting now, every shoe in the world needs to have a keycard in them,” he said. “And all the shoe keycards in the United States connected to the machine.”

So he asked the government and Senate to tell every store to make shoes with keycards in them. All the stores and companies agreed with that but only if they received a one-time payment of $1,000 back to all the stores.

The government agreed with that and all the stores did too. Now Robert could communicate with everyone. So whenever he saw someone they would know what he was saying because the shoes had a connection to the people, and through the machine that connected to everyone.  All the stores got $1,000 back from the government and everyone was pleased.
