I Can Say “Yes” and “No”

By Angelo Igiraneza Ganza

    I say “yes” when

I’m told to read a book

Eat everything that is cooked

Somebody asks me to be their partner

Because it helps me get my projects done faster.

I say “no” when

Someone tells me to do something bad

Or do something that makes others sad

Somebody asks me to do something mean

Even when what I am doing won’t be seen.

I can say “yes” and “no” in four languages

My dad and mom say “this is the age”

The age to learn different languages.

Now “yes”, “yes”, “yes”!

“Oui” is French and “ne” is Korean

“Si” is Spanish and “yego” is Kinyarwanda.

Then “no”, “no”, “no”!

“Non” is French and “aniyo” is Korean

“No” is Spanish and “oya” is Kinyarwanda.

Uh oh! I almost forgot

“Yes” and “no” in sign language!

Can I say that?

Hmm! Let’s just forget that.
