The Talking Animals
By Ian Covarrubias
One fall day, four animals from the San Diego Zoo were talking and making a plan to escape from their cages. They all wanted to find their families who lived at the Los Angeles Zoo. The four animals from the San Diego Zoo were Gordon the gorilla, Tyler the tiger, Charlie the cheetah and Bob the bear. The four animals made their plan to escape that night.
Gordon the gorilla was the leader of the group. He said, “Let’s plan this for tonight because I don’t like this town. We should escape to go see our families.”
Tyler the tiger replied, “I agree. We should escape and go see our families.”
Gordon told Patty, the pelican, to sneak for the keys to their cages. She agreed and the plan was set.
That night Tyler, Gordon, Charlie, and Bob waited for the people to leave the zoo. Then when it was dark, the four friends waited for Patty to get the keys. She flew off to get the keys from the zookeepers. She waited for the zookeepers to clean up and then they fell asleep. Patty grabbed the keys from on the desk and quickly flew away and back to her friends.
Bob was checking the hallways if there were people and he said, “Yes. It’s all clear.”
Patty flew ahead of the four escapees making sure it was clear.
Just then, a little kid who was looking at the giraffes noticed these four animals escaping the zoo. He shouted, “Hey Dad! There’s four of your animals escaping! We should get them!”
The little boy’s dad was a zookeeper at the San Diego Zoo. He quickly got the bucket of food and his training stick, but it didn’t work. Bob, Charlie, Tyler, and Gordon ran out of the zoo before the zookeeper could get them. They chased them around in circles, but the four animals were able to escape from the zookeepers and out the exit. The bear was talking to Patty the pelican, and said, “Are you coming with us?”
Patty replied, “Should I come with you guys?”
Charlie said, “Yes! Join us!”
The four friends and the pelican walked down the sidewalk outside the exit until they reached the river.
Gordon asked, “How will we find the Los Angeles Zoo?”
“Let’s find a map!” Tyler growled. “I don’t want to be walking all day long!”
Charlie reminded his friends that people bought a map at the zoo’s gift shop, so maybe they could find a map at a gift shop downtown. Patty led the way and the tiger, bear, gorilla and the cheetah all followed her.
Then Patty saw an empty truck so she went back to her friends. They all ran to the empty truck and the gorilla jumped into the driver’s seat. A person dropped a phone on the ground. Bob the bear picked it up and he asked Siri to go to Google Maps and search the direction to the Los Angeles Zoo. Gordon drove the truck all the way to Los Angeles to go see their animal families.
They were not quite five minutes from the zoo when Gordon asked Patty if she could fly to the zoo and check if their families were there and Patty said, “Yes, your families are there.”
Gordon was driving really fast because they were excited to see their families. Even Charlie, Bob and Tyler were excited. They pulled into the parking lot and waited in the truck until the night. Then, they walked to the entrance being really sneaky and quiet. They opened the door and walked in. Charlie the cheetah went straight to the Rainforest of the Americas and he found his mom and sisters. Tyler the tiger went to the Animals of Asia and found his dad and mom. Bob the bear went to Russia’s Grizzly Coast and found his brothers. Gordon was the last one to find his family. He went straight to the Lowlands and found his mom and dad. All the animals were excited to be home with their families. Gordon wrote a note for Patty to take back to their old zoo.
Then Patty flew back to the San Diego Zoo and she gave the envelope with the note to the zookeeper. It was signed Gordon the Gorilla, Charlie the Cheetah, Bob the Bear, and Tyler the Tiger and they explained where they were and that they were very happy to be back with their families.
