2 Spring On Canvas

To capture spring on canvas
The artist painted in the sky.
Azure blue…
And then added birches,
In clumps,
Just the way they grew,
In black and white
With a bare hint of green…
And in the foreground lay,
Amid the leaf decay,
Patches of hepatica
Peeking through…
The flower heads
Depicted in gentle hues
Of the softest shades
Of pinks, lavenders and blues…
For a spring,
Even in a painting on a wall,
Without hepaticas,
Would be no spring at all.
