Trying

by Adrianna Ziegelmann

It’s something we do every day

The second we open our eyes we put the mask on and try

The mask that hides our true identity from the outside world

So nobody knows who we truly are

Our souls are ghosts hiding in the shadows waiting

Waiting to be unveiled from what seems the never ending curse

Because when we do show our true sides we get judged

We’re either too loud, too annoying, too bossy, or not popular enough

These days you have to be perfect

You have to have the name brand clothing, the straight hair, the perfect body, the newest water bottle, the right face products

None of those quotes about being yourself seem to be true and dont work

All the times your parents have told you to be yourself and people will like you for who you are

Well as kids all we can say is that we tried and people still ended up hating us

Because we’re not cool since we don’t vape or sneak out or do drugs or get high

Is that really what we have to do nowadays just to fit in?

Go down the path of failure and misery

To me that’s unfair and makes the world seem cruel

In our minds the only thing we think about is the word “survival”

Surviving the hate, people, comments, and overall life

Why do we even try for everyone in our lives if no matter what we do is good enough

Don’t smile enough

Don’t laugh more often

Don’t put in enough effort

Keep messing up and making mistakes

Over and over till you can’t take it no more

And the quicksand just sucks you in deeper and deeper

Until it feels like you’re being pressured down under the surface till you can’t breathe

People tell you to change and so you do

Yet they always are expecting more out of you and won’t ever think you’re good enough

There’ll always be something people will pick out about you that they don’t like because it’s ugly or childish or just not the trend anymore

Why should we let all that nonsense identify us and ruin our reputation

Is this really what it’s come down to?

If so then the world will end in pain and agony and we won’t ever get world peace like everyone wants

Looks or Personality?

Why is that question even asked

Does it really matter that much?

Why should the way a persons looks define who they are and what they have to offer

Sure they may not have the curly hair, the height, or the biggest muscles

What matters is how they look on the inside

Their kindness, thoughtfulness, forgiveness, integrity, and maturity is what counts

The people that stand up for you and truly love you for who you are, they are the ones who are real in your life

The ones who would take a bullet for you, protect you like you’re their sibling, change to be a better person

The one who you feel safe with and get that feeling like you’re at home all cozy

Whom you can be yourself around and have no embarrassment

We need more of those types of people in our world in order to make it a better place

Human beings who stepped up and stood out are the ones who have changed our country’s history and the way our planet is shaped today

They’re the ones who didn’t care about looks or the top trending stuff

To conclude this message I leave you with this

Fake friends are like leaves

They are everywhere and will fall and die

Real friends are diamonds

They’re rare and expensive

Most importantly, hard to find and keep
