To Forget

By Sofia Skuza Rivera

The first was successful

escaping from your mind without a trace

many others would try to

but one escape created an impossibility for the rest

unfortunate victims still left clawing at the walls

 with no relief in sight

Your goal was always to affect the natural end

you were never satisfied with the way you were

more so, the way everyone else was

You had a tendency,

an inherent talent

to instill fear

a tactic to seize your prey

before they could even think of fighting back

I wanted to run

i would make it to the exit

the pain, the single needles you lodged in my skin

each of them would dissipate as I reached your end

Yet your words would pull me backward

grabbed my arms as I fought back

Until I forgot that I wanted to leave.
