Jackson County Libraries

The Jackson County Library System (JCLS) was formed in 1976 and is comprised of libraries in the Cities of Jackson, Lakefield and Heron Lake. Prior to 1976 each City had a small library. The JCLS is a member of the Plum Creek Regional Library System which allows for resource sharing between Plum Creek member libraries and throughout the State. It is the mission of the Jackson County Libraries to provide materials and programs to our communities which support and promote education, culture, information, and entertainment.

The libraries offer many free programs and activities throughout the year. Programs offered include pre-school story times, homeschool program, daycare visits, book discussions, after school programs, teen programs, summer reading programs, winter reading programs, author visits, and programs for adults/seniors. The libraries maintain a sizeable collection of books for all ages, eBooks, large print books, STEM kits, storytelling kits, literacy kits, music CD’s, videos, magazines, and newspapers for the public to check out.  The libraries offer free WIFI and public computer stations with Internet access.

The JCLS is governed by a nine-member governing board appointed by the Jackson County Commissioners.  Jackson County appropriates funds for providing library service.
