Lake Benton Public Library

The Lake Benton Public Library began in 1929 with the Excelsior Federated Women’s Club, which had a high interest in education and literacy.  The Excelsior Club collected more than 200 books and magazines that were available on opening day.  The members took turns tending the Library.

The Library was originally located above the city jail and moved to the current location in 2007. An addition was built to the library in 2012 doubling the space.  In 2014 a patio was constructed in the rear of the building.

The Lake Benton Public Library has been a part of the Plum Creek Library System for more than 25 years.  Library staff work hard to strengthen the relationship between the Library and the Regional system to improve service to its patrons.  Because the library is part of the Plum Creek Library System, patrons have access to free wireless internet and a much larger selection of items.

The Lake Benton Public Library has always been proud of its collection.  Patrons have access to DVDs, books, audio books, cake pans, CDs and more.

Staff includes Head Librarian Lynn Carpenter and Assistant Librarians Heidi Thomssen and Corinne Crowe.
