About Plum Creek
A Brief History of Plum Creek

On June 26, 1974 the first agreement forming Plum Creek Library System was signed. The original system included Marshall- Lyon County, Nobles County, Rock County, and the cities of Fulda, Slayton, Mountain Lake, and Redwood Falls. It has grown to include 26 public library outlets in a nine county region.
The library system has provided support to the member libraries through a wide range of services during the last 50 years. Including Bookmobiles, Mail-A-Book, 16mm Films, Reference Services, delivery, circulating Art Prints and Cake Pans, Federal E-Rate support, Arts and Cultural Heritage grant funding, digital resources, and more. In recent years Plum Creek has shifted to increased technology and programming support.
The Plum Creek Library System is a federated regional public library system in which each library is funded locally, has its own library board, selects its own materials and retains local control. The member libraries of our system share resources, programs, and technical innovations. By working together as a team, we are able to achieve our common goals as well as meet the needs of our individual communities.
