Alumna Profile: Jessica Carl
Jessica Carl is a Digital Marketer, utilizing digital media to help attract potential clients through strategies including search engine optimization (SEO), paid advertising, social media and online websites.
To reach potential clients more effectively than competitors, businesses need to consistently be the first result on search engines. As a writer, Carl must be concise and strategic. To attract the attention of potential patients, ads and landing pages must be “to the point” and use enticing wording. To help craft their writing, Carl and her team create personas for the types of patients who they expect will see these ads — the audience for their marketing strategies.
As a former University of Minnesota Duluth student, Carl received her MBA with an emphasis in Marketing. During her time a UMD, she was part of Advertising Club.
Ad Club is a student organization dedicated to educating students about the advertising, marketing, and communications industries. Ad Club accomplishes this by hosting guest speakers, attending agency tours, conducting resume reviews, holding networking events, and providing career opportunities.
Carl found the club valuable f0r the work she is doing post-graduation.
Carl offers a word of advice to students: “Use external resources to learn more about the field you’re going into. College classes are great for fundamentals, but its important to keep up with what’s going on in your profession. Follow industry leaders and study what they are doing.” Carl also encourages students to not be afraid of getting to know their professors. They can be a great resource in helping you connect and network.
