Woodland Sunflower

Helianthus strumosus is a late summer flower blooming July into September, one of our many, delightful, native sunflowers. Look for it growing equally well in both dappled shade and sunny areas. In fact, while walking along forest paths and roads, the very existence of these bright yellow petals give us extra shots of joy and sunshine along the way. Leaves are somewhat narrow and are mostly oppositely attached up the somewhat smooth stem.
