Hoary Alyssum
Berteroa incana is certainly an attractive flower, but it is also a very weedy, non-native flower that can be quite invasive. So, it is useful to be able to ID this plant in case you want to remove it from your native garden or forest landscape where it likes to settle and spread in disturbed, sandy soils.
A cluster of tiny white flowers on the end of branching stems near the top of the plant has 4 deeply notched petals, giving the appearance of having 8 petals. A basal rosette low to the ground starts out the season of this perennial plant; then a tall stem of narrow, lance shaped leaves up to 3″ long rise up the stem which can grow up to 3 feet tall.
